You know what’s wrong with modern BMWS, LOTS.
But mostly they don’t do this.

I think it might be easier to access the engine bay with the hoods hinged at the back, though.

It’s because the way the hood opens now is more like a mouth, which is appropriate cause when it sees one of these it goes nom nom

Front hinged hoods are a real pain in the ass, ever changed a fan belt on front hinge hood?

Apparently I’m just really salty these days. I was playing xbox the other day with some friends and I was bitching about something and my friend goes just so salty.

But but they look cool.

Practically be damned, I love front hinged hoods.

Front-hinged and rear-hinged hoods both have their benefits and drawbacks.
On a rear hinged hood, you get plenty of access up front, but there’s limited space to monitor and fill things like the brake fluid reservoir and power steering fluid reservoir. They also appear to need much fewer components replaced in the event of front end damage.
I personally prefer front-hinged hoods because although the front drive belts are harder to access, you have more space to inspect the fuse box, brake fluid reservoir, and in some cases the power steering fluid reservoir.
Front-hinged hoods also allow for more space to operate longer ratchets in order to swap out front suspension components on certain designs, as well as reduce the threat of damaging your windscreen if the hood needs to come off.

Well that about solves any rear hinged hood problems.

Buy an international Scout you’ll curse front hinge hoods for life.

You are correct

Front hinged hoods are best hoods. Looks cooler + They force people to come near the car in order to see the engine at car shows.

It would if you could easily remove the wiper cowl.

To be fair, that is a rather tall vehicle compared to something like an E21.

Also, you never have to worry about what happens if your hood pops open while driving with a front hinge hood. I once drove for about 20 minutes with the hood opened(but not up) in my e30. Bet it looked really weird to people around me.

Agree, front hinged hoods seriously missed
BMW can have the hoods tho *if* they bring back lightness, road feel, hydraulic steering boost, non-gimmicky peripherals, water temp. gauges, dipsticks, spare tires, tires that go flat if you pincture them, consoles without an oversized fine tuning knob, center stacks without that Goddamn baby bump, dash buttons that don’t feel like cheap Pacific Rim electronics, interior chimes that play an A Major chord, and...uh oh sorry off on a rant there
-Please feel free to add your own suggestions for BMW NA / BMW AG-

that *don’t* play an A Major chord

I’ve literally never had to do that. However the vertical makes it easy to get to “fuse box, brake fluid reservoir, and in some cases the power steering fluid reservoir.”

Yup, that too.

Fair enough, although you have to admit that the Mercedes hood struts are hard to put into the service position in a normal garage.

Like a service garage? I do things in a parking garage all the time and have never had an issue. Actually the last thing I did was halfway down the back of the engine block and it was pretty easy. So the hood actually helped.
But hey, I’m considering this for my next car:
Looks like the easiest headlight bulb replacement ever.

Like an attached garage on a 1950s ranch house (or similar older garage design). My friend finds that in his garage, there simply isn’t enough overhead space to open his R129's hood into the vertical service position.

Time for a new garage.

It’s a shame the city won’t let him build a secondary one behind his house.
